Advances in laser technology have brought about many exciting innovations in anti aging skin care. Today's lasers are gentler, safer, and more effective than ever before. Laser skin rejuvenation in Phoenix and Scottsdale is an extremely effective way to achieve firmer, smoother, younger looking skin without surgery.

About Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Laser skin resurfacing uses laser light to penetrate the skin and remove imperfections. It is not the same as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, and is used to treat different conditions. There are many different types of lasers that work at various layers of the skin to treat conditions including:

  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin discoloration
  • Skin laxity

Your Laser Skin Rejuvenation Procedure

At our practice in Scottsdale and Phoenix, laser skin rejuvenation is customized to your particular skin condition.

Non-ablative lasers, such as the Fraxel® laser, target the tissue beneath the skin rather than destroying the surface skin. These treatments target smaller areas of damaged skin and leave the surrounding skin intact. This allows the healthy surrounding skin to help in the healing of the targeted skin, and also results in less discomfort and downtime.

Results from non-ablative laser treatments emerge gradually as the underlying skin heals, old skin is sloughed away, and new collagen growth is stimulated. These treatments are usually performed in a series for best results. Most patients can return to work or normal activities immediately following a non-ablative laser procedure. Sometimes the skin is slightly pink and tender, like a mild sunburn.

Ablative lasers, such as Erbium and CO2 lasers, use laser energy to dissolve the outer layers of skin and skin imperfections. This allows for the growth of new, younger, unblemished skin in the place of the old. Significant improvement is usually achieved after one ablative laser treatment, but downtime and discomfort is increased with this procedure.

Ablative laser procedures may require 7 to 10 days of downtime, depending on the conditions treated and the depth of the resurfacing. Skin may be red and tender, and will become crusted as it heals. Residual pinkness may last for weeks, but results from the more intense ablative lasers also tend to be more dramatic, especially for patients with more significant wrinkling and environmental damage.
