The Arizona sun can wreak havoc on your skin, robbing you of the smooth, even skin of your youth. IPL photofacial at our Phoenix and Scottsdale practice can correct a variety of skin conditions, including environmental damage, with results that leave you looking and feeling rejuvenated.

What Is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and it is different from laser skin rejuvenation. During this procedure, pulses of light are applied to your skin in a process called photorejuvenation. Photorejuvenation can provide long-term improvement to conditions such as:

  • Sun damage
  • Birthmarks
  • Small veins and capillaries
  • Rosacea
  • Dull or blotchy skin

How Is Photorejuvenation Performed?

We perform photofacial with IPL at our Phoenix and Scottsdale medical spas in a series of treatments that are customized to your specific needs. The number of treatments and the intensity will depend on the conditions being treated. Most patients find that a series of 3 to 6 treatments leaves them with smoother, clearer, more evenly pigmented skin. We commonly perform photorejuvenation on the face, neck, chest and hands.

During your treatment, you will wear protective eyewear, and your skin will be soothed by a cool gel. IPL is applied through a handpiece that is gently guided over your skin. As the light energy is delivered, you will feel a sensation that most patients compare to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. Most treatments take from 20 to 60 minutes.

You can return to normal activities such as work immediately after your treatment. One of the advantages of this procedure is that there is virtually no downtime. Improvements to the look and feel of the skin are gradual but lasting. After your initial series of treatments, you may choose to undergo regular "maintenance" treatments for optimal results.
