Hyperhidrosis Treatment

The technical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis – a condition that can affect any part of the body. Hyperhidrosis can cause embarrassment and discomfort when it occurs on the hands and face, but the most common area for complaints is in the underarm area (axillary region).

Patients who experience too much underarm sweating now have a simple and permanent solution thanks to a procedure created by our own Dr. Repta. The SASS Underarm™ procedure (for small access subdermal shaving) offered at our practice in Scottsdale and Phoenix is a sweat reduction treatment that quickly and permanently corrects excessive armpit perspiration.

About the Procedure

SASS is a relatively quick procedure that provides a permanent solution for women and men who:

  • Suffer from axillary hyperhidrosis
  • Prefer not to wear antiperspirant or deodorant
  • Are allergic to or cannot tolerate antiperspirant or deodorant

After administering either local or general anesthesia, your surgeon makes a small, 2mm incision in the armpit. Through this incision, the majority of the sweat glands and hair follicles are removed from the underarm area. Perspiration and hair growth in the area are significantly reduced or eliminated. The procedure typically takes less than an hour, and recovery usually involves some minor bruising and the use of compression for a few days.

Prior to the development of the SASS Underarm treatment, hyperhidrosis was typically treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. While this is still a reasonable treatment option, the recurring cost and need for multiple injections have prompted patients to seek better solutions. Through his dedication to cutting edge treatments and top quality patient care, Dr. Repta has created a permanent solution.

The SASS Underarm treatment also can be seen as an alternative to laser hair removal, since both the sweat glands and hair follicles in the treatment area are removed.
