Over time, many women find that their breasts lose volume and sag. Weight fluctuations and pregnancy can accelerate these unwelcome breast changes, leaving you longing for the fuller, firmer breasts you once had. The board-certified plastic surgeons at Advanced Aesthetic Associates in Phoenix and Scottsdale perform breast lift surgery (mastopexy) to renew the breasts, making them look younger and perkier.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

Women choose to undergo breast lift surgery to correct the changes that come with weight loss, childbearing, and the natural aging process. Our experienced surgeons customize each procedure to the patient's unique needs and aesthetic goals to provide one or more of the following benefits:

  • Renewing breast shape
  • Elevating the breasts on the chest
  • Restoring natural cleavage
  • Reducing the size of stretched areolas

Depending on your needs, our surgeons may combine your breast lift in Phoenix and Scottsdale with breast augmentation or breast reduction to provide a more attractive and youthful breast shape, position, and appearance.

Your Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure using IV sedation or general anesthesia that is administered under the care of a board-certified anesthesiologist. The surgery takes approximately 2 hours to complete, depending on whether it is combined with other procedures. Your surgeon may use one of the following breast lift techniques to remove excess skin and breast tissue:

  • Doughnut incision: encircles the areola
  • Short scar incision (also called a vertical or lollipop incision): encircles the areola and runs straight to the breast crease
  • Anchor incision: adds an incision along the breast crease to the short scar incision

Recovery After a Breast Lift

You will likely return home the day of surgery with your breasts wrapped securely to promote healing and minimize swelling. Expect your breasts to be swollen and bruised for about 1 to 2 weeks. You should be able to manage any discomfort with oral medication if desired.

Most patients are able to return to their daily activities including work or school within about a week. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for about 4 to 5 weeks.

If you are considering breast lift surgery or any other breast enhancement procedure, Dr. Prichard, Dr. Repta, Dr. Andres, or Dr. Mussman can discuss the options that will best meet your goals and answer any questions you may have.
