Our surgeons perform facial fat grafting in Scottsdale and Phoenix to augment areas of volume loss that naturally occur with age. Instead of a synthetic filler, the patient's own body fat is used to naturally enhance the face. The surgeons at Advanced Aesthetic Associates are among the select few in the area with the specialized training and technology to offer this natural and highly effective facial rejuvenation option.

Benefits of Fat Grafting

Facial aging inevitably involves a certain amount of volume loss, mostly in the form of youthful fat that is lost over time. The cheeks and temples lose volume and look hollow, soft-tissue on the cheeks droops to the jawline, and wrinkles and folds form. People choose fat grafting for one or more of the following reasons:

  • Filling out sunken areas such as the eyebrows, upper eyelids, tear troughs (under the eyes), cheeks, temples, and lips.
  • Smoothing away facial lines, wrinkles, and folds.
  • Eliminating concerns about having a foreign substance placed into their bodies because their own body fat is used.

How Much Does Fat Grafting Cost?

The cost of a fat grafting procedure ranges from $4,500 to $7,500. The cost increases if fat grafting is performed with other procedures; however, combination procedures typically cost less overall than having each procedure performed separately. For the highest safety and optimal results, it's essential to choose a surgeon who is qualified and experienced in performing fat grafting. Our Choosing a Plastic Surgeon page provides details about what to look for in a surgeon.

Alternatives to Fat Grafting

In order to achieve natural and balanced facial rejuvenation results, lost volume must be replenished. Fat grating, also called fat transfer, can be a very important component in restoring a more youthful facial appearance. Dr. Repta, Dr. Prichard, Dr. Andres, or Dr. Mussman will help you to determine the procedure that will best achieve your goals. Alternatives include:

  • Injectable fillers temporarily replace lost facial volume on areas such as the cheeks and temples.
  • Facial implants such as cheek and chin implants permanently add volume.

Our surgeons also use fat grafting for natural breast augmentation and for buttocks reshaping.

Your Fat Grafting Procedure

The fat grafting procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia. The surgeon removes excess fat using liposuction from areas where it is not wanted such as the abdomen, hips, flanks, and under the chin. The fat must be harvested delicately then specifically prepared to assure that only pure, healthy fat is injected into the recipient site. The viable, high-quality fat selected is then reintroduced with extreme precision to improve the effectiveness of the procedure.

What to Expect During Recovery

Because the patient's own tissue is used, there is no risk of allergic reaction with fat grafting. There is some initial swelling and bruising in treated areas, but recovery from this procedure is typically quick. The body absorbs some of the injected fat, but the fat that establishes a blood supply will remain indefinitely. Occasionally, follow-up treatments or touch-ups may be necessary, especially if the patient desires additional volume.
