What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is not about clothing, makeup, or hairstyles; it is a customized combination of plastic surgery procedures that are performed together to renew your body after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Review our Mommy Makeover page for details about procedure options.

What are the benefits of a Mommy Makeover over having the procedures performed individually?

Moms often have multiple areas they'd like to improve, most commonly the breasts, tummy, and trouble spots such as the hips. A Mommy Makeover enables you to make the most of your downtime and financial investment. You can get the various improvements you want with a single recovery period. You will need to take time off from work and arrange for help with your kids, but you will only need to do this once. Combining procedures can also save you money because you pay only once for anesthesia, medication, and the surgical facility. Many women find it especially gratifying to have a complete transformation instead of improvements in stages.

How long should I wait to have a Mommy Makeover after having children?

It's important to wait until your body is ready and it's the right time in your life before having a Mommy Makeover. We recommend waiting at least 2 to 3 months after your baby is born and you've stopped breastfeeding. You should also be close to your normal weight and in good health. Once you are physically ready, it's important to be able to take the time off from work and your everyday activities and have reliable help available to ensure you heal properly.

What is recovery like after a Mommy Makeover?

Your recovery will depend on the procedures you choose and your body's ability to heal itself. We recommend having a reliable caregiver such as a grandparent or family member available to assist you and care for your children for approximately the first 2 weeks. Giving yourself the time to rest up front will often enable you to recover more quickly. Many women can return to office work after about 2 weeks. You will need to avoid strenuous activities for about a month.

Can you remove my C-section scar?

If you have a tummy tuck as part of your Mommy Makeover, as most women do, the appearance of your C-section scar can be improved. We want you to have a great looking abdomen and be able to wear a bikini without visible scars or other signs of surgery; therefore, we do our best to make sure the incision is placed just above the pubic bone and runs low enough to be covered by bikini bottoms and underwear. We also conceal the belly button incision inside the natural creases of the belly button.

Is there a Mommy Makeover that doesn't involve surgery?

Whether you plan to have surgery or not, a sensible diet and consistent exercise program will go a long way to helping you look your best. We offer non-surgical body contouring with CoolSculpting® that can provide measurable results, although not nearly as significant as liposuction. For most moms, a tummy tuck is necessary to repair abdominal muscles and remove excess skin.
